ColourSpace Multithreading

Higher ColourSpace licenses (INF/XPT/PRO LMN/LGN & HTX/HTP) are Multi-Threaded, enabling all available CPU threads to be utilised during processor hungry operations, such as LUT Generation.

Multithreading means multiple operation can be performed simultaneously, and LUT Generation is far faster than for lower ColourSpace license levels.

Multi-Threading

The number of CPU threads dedicated to each LUT Generation process can be set by an Environment Variable, as defined within the Customer Downloads documentation. If not set, all available CPU threads are used.

With ColourSpace's Multi-Threading capability multiple LUTs can be generated simultaneously, either by using the Create button multiple times with different Source/Destination configurations, or via opening multiple LUT Generation windows, again with different Source/Destination configurations.

Additionally, other ColourSpace functions can be accessed while LUTs are being generated, enabling saved profiles to be reviewed, etc.

With recent ColourSpace update releases all LUT Adjustment tools are now multi-threaded, so depending on the PC's available CPU cores, processing speeds are greatly increased.

However, when working on large size LUTs, mathematically complex operations can still take some time, specifically functions such as Invert, Split (1D + 3D), and Subtract.

Additionally, seriously mathematically complex operations that are really processor hungry will lock a PC's processing to an extent that other functions cannot be performed, especially if all CPU cores are available to ColourSpace.
