Colour Made Simple

Latest News From Light Illusion - May '15

Light Illusion is the world leader for critical colour management within the Film, Post-Production, and Broadcast industries, guaranteeing image accuracy and consistency at all levels, and uniquely supports Home Cinema at the same professional level, enabling home users to match professional colour accuracy.

New Features and New Capabilities

LightSpace CMS

Light Illusion announces a raft of totally new developments for LightSpace CMS - the most advanced, and yet simple to use display calibration system available for both professional and home cinema users.

All new features and developments are provided free to existing customers, continuing Light Illusion's approach of no additional costs or yearly support fees for all its software systems. Pay once for a lifetime's use!

Gamut Triangle Level
The new Gamut Triangle Level function enables the visualisation of a display's gamut at all matched RGB primary points throughout the full stimulus range. By cycling through the drop-down list of available matched RGB primary points it is possible to see the shape and size of the Gamut, and see at what levels it is smaller or larger that the desired target. This is extremely helpful when it comes to understanding the underlying capabilities of a given display.
See: User Manual - Gamut Triangle Level

Stimulus Levels
The Stimulus Levels function is another of the 'filters' for the CIE graphs, and defines what measured points are shown. As with all the points filters they are additive options, and will combine with any other filters selected. The Stimulus Levels filter will show any and all points that include the selected value within any R, G, or B stimulus data. This enables easier selection of a given point to enable it to be isolated via a double click to see the points associated measured colour data and Delta-E values.
See: User Manual - Stimulus Levels

The Delta-E filter is also another of the 'filters' for the CIE graphs, and defines how the measured points are shown based on their Delta-E value. As with all the points filters they are additive options, and will combine with any other filters selected. Therefore to see just the points within the available Delta-E ranges first disable all other filter tick boxes. The benefit of this filter function is that it enables a quick assessment of the spread of Delta-E values within the measured profile, allowing a very quick understanding of the overall accuracy of the display.

Memory Colours and Gamut Sweeps
Quick Profiling has a selection of new profiling options, including Memory Colours and Gamut Sweeps, which enable a quick verification of any display calibration accuracy.

The new Reporting feature enables a .pdf export to be generated of the various graphs, as well as details on various aspects of the selected profile, including all graphs, Luma range, Contrast, Delta-E ranges, etc., as well as user editable sections for client name, display, probe data, and more.

Additional changes in the new release include:

  • Added new Maths functions for LUT Manipulations
  • Added 'Sweeps' to Quick Profiling options
  • Added Memory Colours to Quick Profiling options
  • Added EBU TEC3320 colour space pre-set
  • Added new LUT formats
  • Error message if Colour Space name invalid
  • Additional CIE graph display features
  • BON 1D & 3D LUT Upload
  • ACES v1 fixes (for ACES not LightSpace)
  • Correction for madVR integration

All Flanders Scientific displays are factory calibrated via LightSpace CMS

"Light Illusion's LightSpace CMS is incredibly powerful while remaining extremely easy to use. It excels at meeting our very stringent calibration needs at Flanders Scientific while remaining easy enough for virtually any user to implement, regardless of previous calibration experience"
Bram Desmet

3D LUT Calibration - LightSpace CMS is Unmatched

LightSpace CMS

Recent independent tests have shown LightSpace CMS is unmatched with regard to the level of calibration accuracy it can achieve, and the speed with which it achieves its results, surpassing by some margin results achieved by alternative calibration systems.
See: Calibration Comparison

Keep it Simple
With the power of the Advanced Colour Engine within LightSpace CMS calibration is a very simple process, without the need for intricate optimization of internal display settings before 3D LUT calibration is performed. Simply turn off any internal display colour management, set the black and white points as required, and let LightSpace do the rest.

No requirement to pre-set colour temperature, gamma, or gamut, as with alternative calibration systems!
See: Pre-Calibration display Set-up for LightSpace CMS LUT based calibration.

Expansive Product Integration
LightSpace CMS is compatible with more Post-Production systems, LUT boxes, monitors and displays than any other calibration system, enabling accurate colour management for all colour critical environments, from Film, Post-Production, and Broadcast industries, to Home Cinema enthusiasts.

No On-Going Yearly Costs

Unlike alternative calibration systems LightSpace CMS has no additional or yearly fees. One payment and the license is valid for life, including all software revision updates for all options purchased.

Over the life of the product that amounts to a considerable cost saving!

Trade-Up to Professional Calibration

At Light Illusion we often have contact from calibration users - home cinema hobbyists, professional calibrators, and film and TV facilities and studios - complaining that the calibration system they have invested in is not performing as expected. We have always sympathised with such users, but as the calibration system in question is never LightSpace CMS there has been little we have been able to do.

However, Light Illusion is now delighted to be able to offer a Trade-up path for users of any alternate calibration system, reducing the financial redundancy inherent in a second calibration system investment.

Any purchased calibration software can be used to trade-up to any of the various LightSpace CMS versions - Professional and Home Cinema.

Light Illusion Forums

We also have open user Forums where all aspects of colour management can be discussed.
Please feel free to ask any question there!
