Next Generation Colour Mathematics
Light Illusion announces a totally new development of its world leading Colour Engine, which is at the heart of the unparalleled calibration accuracy of LightSpace CMS.
The original Colour Engine has already proven to be the most accurate, as well as the fastest available for display calibration, LUT generation, LUT conversion and LUT manipulation. However, nothing is ever perfect, and the Light Illusion development team knew they could do better. After over 6 man-months of work the algorithms and mathematics that are at the core of the LightSpace Colour Engine have been totally re-written and enhanced, with visible and measurable improvements in final calibration results.
Flanders Scientific Inc has been actively involved in beta testing the new Colour Engine, and has been very impressed with the improvements, as Bram Desmet, General Manager, comments.
"It's always impressive to see something that was already good to begin with get even better over time. LightSpace CMS does this time and again and the latest release is no exception. The improved accuracy we are seeing is a testament to Light Illusion's commitment to the continued refinement of their products."
In running their own test Flanders Scientific looked at the minimum profiling requirements for their new range of OLED displays. Normally, accurate calibration requires many individual colour patches - often counted in thousands. With the inherent linear response of the FSI OLED displays LightSpace CMS was able to generate very accurate calibration results with just 24 patches, in a matter of seconds.
That is an unbelievable result, and proves both the superb capabilities of FSI's OLED displays, as well as the unmatched calibration that can be performed within a very short time with LightSpace CMS and its new Colour Engine.
Additional changes in the new release include:
- New Colour Engine mathematics and algorithms
- New LUT Format for Canon 4K professional displays
- Changed operation of VideoScale functions
- Changed defaults for Convert Colour Spaces
- Added Differential Gamma graph
- Added support for DVDO AVLab TPG patch generation
- Corrected Active LUT effect on initial patch in Measure mode
- Fixed error with Probe Settings not being remembered correctly
- Small changes for CR-250 integration
- Added error message if CDL/CCC file invalid
- Corrected minor Convert Colour Space white loss
- Changed UHDTV label to UHD Rec2020
- Added ST2084 Gamma profiles for Rec709, Rec2020, and P3
- Fixed error with Hubble probe connection
- Fixed duplicate LUT being applied to Ref Image when exporting Arri Looks
A new release of LightSpace CMS including the new Colour Engine. and the additional listed features. will be available to all users via the normal download procedure in a matter of days.
Nothing else comes close to the accuracy and capabilities of LightSpace CMS
The advanced calibration capabilities of LightSpace CMS can be seen by the fact any display can be accurately calibrated without the need for intricate optimization of internal display settings. All that is needed is to turn off any internal display colour management, set the black and white points as required, and let LightSpace do the rest. No requirement to pre-set colour temperature, gamma, or gamut, as with alternative calibration systems!

A Perfect Time To Talk Colour!
Light Illusion will be at NAB, in the guise of Steve Shaw, who can be found wandering the halls, or more specifically on the SGO booth, #SL3825. Please do find Steve, and discuss all aspects of colour calibration and colour management.
Additionally, LightSpace CMS can be seen in operation on the Flanders Scientific booth, #SL10805, where there will be a dedicated LightSpace calibration station.
We will also be giving away three LightSpace CMS licenses at the Colourist Mixer NAB event, so those of you that have signed up for it - we'll see you there!
Light Illusion Forums
We also have open user Forums where all aspects of colour management can be discussed.
Please feel free to ask any question there!
