DICOM Medical Display Calibration
DICOM GSDF Medical Display Calibration uses a JND (Just Noticeable Difference) approach to calibrating the steps between each level in the display's grey scale, combined with critical colour gamut management.
LightSpace CMS is the best solution for calibration of displays used in radiology, endoscopy, tomography, ultrasound, dentistry, medical surgery, microscopy, and any medical imaging application, including veterinary.
LightSpace CMS for Medical Display Calibration
All LightSpace CMS versions with 'calibration capability' include the DICOM standard, enabling any LightSpace license to be used for Medical Display Calibration.
LightSpace DICOM calibration provides consistent image viewing on any display with 3D LUT capability, or through the use of an external LUT box, matching both grey scale and colour, guaranteeing medical images viewed on one display will match when viewed on any other display.
Through the use of 3D LUTs the level of volumetric calibration achievable far exceeds traditional grey scale only DICOM calibration, maximising the visual assessment of medical images, enhancing the ability to spot items of interest.
DICOM Medical Display Calibration Options
The DICOM standard is included within all 'calibration' versions of LightSpace CMS, enabling any license to be used for Medical Display calibration, with the license choice being defined by the probe to be used, and the LUT format required.
The recommended approach to Medical Display Calibration is to use a display with in-built 3D LUT capability, such as those provided by Eizo or NEC (or any other display with internal 3D LUT capability), or through the use of an external LUT box, such as the Lumagen Radiance range of LUT Boxes.
An alternative is to use the VCGT 1D LUT capabilities of any Windows PC graphics card or graphics chip set, via SpaceMatch DCM to directly manage the display's grey scale, although this approach will leave the display's gamut (colour) unmanaged, so is not an ideal solution (but is the approach taken by many of the alternative DICOM calibration solutions available).
A 3-Day rental option for any LightSpace CMS version can be used for ad hoc calibration as and when needed, and Special Package Deals are also available for software and hardware combinations.
The Benefits of 3D LUT Calibration
Traditional DICOM medical calibration relies on the use of ICC profiles for display calibration, which has a number of associated issues that are a lot less than ideal for accuracy and usability, especially when you need to be able to rely on the calibration to maintain accuracy without question.
