We have just released a new LightSpace version, with some major changes:

-- Av Low Light function added
-- 'Extra Delay Time' function added & Improved Integratiion Time
-- Hide border fram on colour patch with double click
-- New 'Hybrid' 1D+3D profiling mode (beta status)
-- 'Change probe' option added
-- 'Size and Position data' added to display patch
-- New LightSpace HCC (Home Cinema Calibration) version

These changes are fairly serious, and add to the already advanced capabilities of LightSpace CMS.

The user manual has been updated where needed: http://www.lightillusion.com/profiling_manual.html
(Remember you can click on the image buttons to see their function!)

The new 'Hybrid' profiling format is still in 'beta' release, so please do not rely on it at the moment for accurate results.
They will be an update for this format in the next week or so.

We have also found an error with LUTs made from Quick Profile with displays with poor RGB Separation.
This will also be fixed in the coming week.

Feel free to ask any operational questions here.

Hi Steve,

just a little thing - the "profiling patch window" screenshot won't be displayed in the maual
(death link for profiling_patch.png )

And just to be sure - as "Display Type" the "LCD" option should be the right one for D-ILA PJ's with UHP lamps - correct?

Regards,
Harry

Thanks - forgot to upload the image for 'profiling patch'. Done now

For D-ILA projectors I would probably use 'plasma' mode, based on the image output.
But, that will not affect the readings compared to LCD mode, just the potential for 'obvious errors'.

ok, thank's for this information!

Is there any other link as alternative for downloading the SW than the link of the demo SW?

Nope, all downloads are via the 'Download' form.
When you start LightSpace while on-line you will be given the option to download.

Hi Steve,

just for information - I still get no upload window in case of cube view is active.
Same with V6.1.2.

Question about the RGB-Balance chart:
The Y scale goes from 0 to 1. I have a little problem to understand the displayed deviations after a reading. Ideally the RGB lines are in the middle at "0,5". But what does it mean, if one colour is (for example) at 0,4 - does that mean, that colour is -20% off?

If so, wouldn't it be a good idea to label it in % ? (center line = 0%)?
Maybe it's possible for a future version to add a general program properties menu, to let the user set the desired labeling of scales ... ?

NB: Is there a forum for feature requests?

Hi Harry - sorry, will get the 'Upload' issue looked at... sorry we have not yet fixed it!

The RGB Balance chart is an indication of the error - the three lines should be co-incident if the colour temp is accurate. This is the same as the CIE charts with 'crosses' being in the centre circle.

We should be able to look at the graph values, but they are not in % steps - they are xy offsets, so not simple to put a 'value' on.
Just aim for coincident lines though

Asking for feature requests here is fine!

Steve,

why is the brightness scale limited at 140 Nits in the calibration interface?
If I set the contrast of my PC Monitor (HDMI input) to match with video level 235, the 100% white measurement is far beyond 140 Nits ...

And whats the meaning of the up/down slider next to this brightness indicator?

The 'scale' is limited to 140 Nits, but the actual measurements are not limited...
(so profiling a display that is brighter is not effected by the limit)

But, the reason for the scale range limit is that is is very unusual for any display to be above that value when calibrating accurately.
The 'normal' target is 100 to 120Nits.

The up/down slider is so you can set a 'target' as a guide, just like the circles in the CIE diagrams.
It is just a visual reference, and has no impact on the profiling/calibration.

I did guess that.
Because now I've started to work with LS, first I will do some experiments with my PC monitor to save PJ bulb runtime ...

Next question:
The experiments of profiling + colour space conversion (Rec709) for this monitor primarily ends with wrong colours near black.
Using the new LUT (not modified in any way) in the Radiance (or with SpaceMatch) wasn't acceptable. Example: Dark gray near black was turned into brighter magenta.

But, in the Probes User Guide I've found some good information about that ( -> Backlight issues). It refers to LUT manipulation using filters (post processing with axis blending and so on).

Because I've no experiences with that filters - is there one filter mostly used for Monitor/Projector LUT manipulation?

Hi Harry,

E-mail me the .bcs file and I'll look at it and make suggestions as to the best approach to take...
This is a problem with the display/probe combination - probably backlight as you say.
