Sync problem between LightSpace and Resolve during calibration process

I am having problems with calibration of a Dreamcolor, using a i1 Display Pro probe, with LightSpace displaying patches in DIP mode using DaVinci Resolve.

All the times I started calibration (using an EDL in Resolve) the sync was ok in the fist hours, but after 10h of calibration I have a delay of approximatively 1sec40 between Light Illusion and Resolve. This delay seems to bring errors to the calibration (some patches appear far out of the CIE Gammut diagram). Resolve is after Light Illusion so I assume that the DI system is not maintaining real time playback.

However, I tried using low-res files (8bit Tiff 300x300 pixels patches) or low-res proxies (300x300px proxies generated in the Proxy Manager of Resolve), but it doesn't change the problem. I'm surprised because Da Vinci shows me that the timeline reaches 24fps without pain. As anyone an idea? Did someone have the same problem or experience?

Thank you for your help,

Antoine d'Artemare

PS: I'm using a probe integration time of 2sec, with a Time per Frame of 8sec, during a 17^3 cube calibration.

If anyone can help Antoine it would be appreciated.

I really seems the Resolve cannot playback real-time for the duration of there profile as the Resolve time-line is running slow compared to the LightSpace patches display.

I know there are a lot of Resolve users with LightSpace on this forum, so I hope someone can help.

Hi Antoine
I use to work on DaVinci on OSX and normally proxy will not solve the problem except if your Resolve Station can't play HD or 2K realtime !

- the files are on RAID disks or on system disk ?
- Is it a positive or negative delay ?
- Just to be sure, the video standard in the Desktop Video is set to 24p as your Resolve presets ?
- Video monitoring in project setting is 24PsF or 24P ?

Hi Jean,

Thank you for your help,

Yes you are right, all the test I did, even with proxies files, have the same problem of sync. It must be something else.

-I tried both on system SSD disk, and one one internal SATA hard disk which is installed on the computer, but no difference;
-it is a positive delay: I mean Resolve playback is always in late, after light Illusion (but it become significant after hours, for example Resolve has 1sec or 2 of delay after 10hours of calibration);
-the Black Magic Desktop Video is set 1080 24P,
-In Master Project Settings of Resolve, the Video Monitoring is set to HD 1080 24P also, and the Playback Framerate is set to 24fps.

Do you see something wrong?

PS: I'm using a Dreamcolor with a DeckLink, then a HD-Link to do HD-SDI to DVI conversion, and see on the HD-Link documentation that the 1080 24P was a compatible format.

Hello! I have a little different problem. All the patches and EDLs work fine in Resolve, except a little delay.
I have real time performance, but for some reason Lightspace is always one patch behind Davinci.
To me it seems that the very first patch is missing. Lightspace starts with a black patch while Davinci with a dark blue, almost black one. If I paste a black video in Resolve before the EDL conformed timeline, the two software run in sync. Is this normal?

I had the same problem once. Try to delete the edl and the media files, and reimport the dpx media, change the clip attributes of the dpx sequence to Time Code starts at 00:00:00:01, and reimport the EDL. It worked for me, as far as I remember.
