QD-OLED - 3D LUT Calibration with external LUT box

Hello,

I'm considering getting a Sony or Samsung QD-OLED to replace my WOLED client monitor. I'm aware of some of its limitations/issues.
AFAIK, neither Sony not Samsung can load a 3D calibration LUT directly, but I have a 3D LUT capable SDI to HDMI box from blackmagic anyway.

So, I wonder if I can profile either of these TVs in a "wide gamut mode" and calibrate them to SDR rec709 and HDR PQ loading each LUT on my blackmagic converter box. Additionally, I'm wondering if these panels also suffer from the terrible panel drift and instability that afflicts WOLED panels, making them very hard to calibrate, specially in HDR.

If any of these sets prove stable enough, I might even consider replacing my current ref. display for one until a new ref. monitor with a suitable technology for my needs comes out.

Thanks for your input in advance.

Hi,

You can use an external LUT box for an SDR 3D LUT. The BMD Bi-Converter 12G is an excellent option since it has HDMI IN-OUT or can work with SDI IN-HDMI OUT for signals up to 2160p30 10-bit RGB.

You will need ColourSpace LTE to export that LUT format.

See the 1000p verification of another ColourSpace user with the same setup:
