Hi,

I want to profile the i1DisplayPro (EODIS3) with the i1Pro2 (Spectro) as reference.
Just to be sure doing it right:

First I connect the i1Pro2 only and start LightSpace.

In the Probe Options menu I perform Measure All and name it i1Pro2 reference (for example).
Then I close LS, disconnect the i1Pro2 Spectro, connect the i1DisplayPro and restart LS.
In the Probe Options menu again I perform Measure All and name it i1D3.

Now I have a data record of the reference probe and the probe I normally use for calibration.

Question:
In Probe Options menu from now on I have to set the i1Pro2 reference as Reference Probe, that's clear.
And if I'm right, as Active Probe / Display Data I have to select my recorded i1D3 - or should this be set to none?

Yep, active probe must be set to the probe you re using for the calibration.

LS needs to be shut down before switching meters? I don't see that in the Probe - User Guide. Should it be there?

No - there is a 'Change Probe' option in the 'Probe Options' menu.

Disconnect the probe in use, connect the new probe, and press the 'Change Probe' button

Its in the User Manual - Profiling: http://www.lightillusion.com/profiling_manual.html#probe_options

At the moment I do also close LS, because sometimes LS did crash after using the Change Probe button.
(i1Pro2 -> i1DisplayPro)

Steve - do you need logfiles, if there are any existing?

Can you give us a process to follow to see the crash?

Hi Steve,

that's the process, step-by-step:

1. i1Pro2 is connected (via active USB HUB).

2. i1DisplayPro (i1D3) is disconnected (because LS doesn't find the i1Pro2 if connected the same time together with i1D3, neither with use of Change Probe button)

3. Start LS

4. Open Cal Interface
-> LS prompts for calibrating the i1Pro2 using the white tile. After the internal calibration is done, place it on screen.

5. Open Probe Options

6. Active Probe / Display Data is empty (there is no stored probe data)

7. Perform Measure All; name it as you wish.

8. If the measurements are done, close the Calibration Area

9. Close the Probe Options window. The Calibration Interface still is open.

10. Disconnect the i1Pro2 from USB

-> after 10s: Crash.

Note: It does also crash, if I click on Change Probe after step 8

What happens if you don't close the 'Probe Options' window?
That should be left open so the 'Change Probe' box is available for use after the first probe is disconnected, and the new probe attached.

Ahhhhh!!!!!

You must use the 'Change Probe' button first, then disconnect the probe, and then connect the new probe, and wait for it to be recognised.

Disconnecting the probe before pressing the 'Change Probe' button causes the problems.
That is like disconnecting any USB device without first 'ejecting' it...

Sorry - bad instructions in the user manual - changed now!

still no scuccess ...

I use the Change Probe button. The Probe Options window closes automatically. The Calibration Interface remains open.

Then I disconnect the i1Pro2 ...
... but it's always the same ... ~10s after doing that, a Win7 (x64) message box appears, reporting "Colour Management System has stopped working"

It's also occurring, if I close the Cal Interface window before disconnecting the i1Pro2, or if I connect the i1D3 within these 10s.

That's the event viewer log:

Faulting application name: LightSpace.exe, version: 6.1.2.1581, time stamp: 0x5102dce7
Faulting module name: i1Pro.dll_unloaded, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x4fd0a8ba

Faulting module path: i1Pro.dll
Report Id: de3992ff-72e2-11e2-9961-00248c62be23

As you can see, something seems to happen with the i1Pro DLL ...

i1Pro.dll is located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Light Illusion\LightSpace CMS
Version: 4.0.4.1108

I've also check'd the windows device manager.
With the i1Pro2 connected, there is an entry named X-Rite Devices -> i1 Pro, but with a question mark next to the i1 Pro symbol.

The drivers properties are:
Driver is C:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\i1_x64.sys
Version: 2.40.0.1315
Provider: Thesycon GmbH, Germany

Is that correct?

If I let windows search for a newer driver online or locally, it says, the best driver for your system is already installed.
Also windows can't find a newer driver in the Light Illusion directory:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Light Illusion\LightSpace CMS\i1Pro Drivers

Maybe the x-rite SW applications coming with the probes are the problem.
I have installed x-rite diagnostic, Profiler and Color Port 2.0.
I will remove it. And I also will re-install LS.

Just a few minutes ...

Solved.

After removing all x-rite applications and a new installation of LS, all is fine!

NB: The driver is still the same (i1_x64.sys V2.40.0.1315). It's coming with x-rite SW as well as with LS. I guess, the question mark in the device manager i1Pro symbol says only, it's not digitally signed, if I'm right.

Steve, one suggestion for the manual:

If pressing the Change Probe button, LS opens a 10s window (timeslot) for disconnecting the probe from the USB.
If you don't do this within the10s, LS will automatically reconnect it as working probe.
If you disconnect the probe from USB after this 10s, LS does crash.

An other question:
At the moment in LightSpace I can't choose between i1Pro2 / i1Display Pro, if both probes are connected the same time at USB. In this situation LS does always connect only the i1D3, even if I press the Change Probe button many times.

Any chance to get it realized, to display kind of a selection window about the physically connected probes, when pressing the Change Probe button?

The driver is the latest - not sure about the signature though...

We'll have to ask X-Rite about the multiple probe question - it is a driver limit I think, not a LightSpace one...but we have found a bug thanks to your feedback, so that may fix the crash - we're testing new code now.

And having X-Rite software installed can cause problems as it attempts to take over any connected probe - definitely best to uninstall all X-Rite software.

I think that should be possible, because Calman already supports this; there the user can switch to an other USB connected probe while CM is running (of course, only if there is no measuring running).
