Hi everyone. As my title suggests, can i use bt1886 for bright room viewing if my measured bt gamma averages at 2.32?

Thank You

BT1886 is not designed fro any specific brightness of viewing environment.
It is based on the black level of the display.
We do not recommend it at all.

Thank you Steve for your input

However lets forget bt for a monent. Lets take the fact of my average 2.3. Can i use 2.3 for bright room at 150 nits? Or is 2.3 as average recommended for darker room at night?

Thank You

The problem is a BT1886 gamma will have a much brighter gamma in the shadows, so will wash-out in a bright viewing environment.
You need the gamma to be brighter in the mids, which means a power law gamma - 2.2 usually.

The weirdest part after testing it out is that actually my shadows are not lifted but actually avtad bit darker than a flat 2.2. Thats why i wonder on my lcd how comes it doesnt lift shadows? And its evident that my average gamma is 2.32. No matter i will keep 2 seperate calibrations for day view one with bt and one 2.2 both at 150 nits and see which i will stick with hopefully

That all depends on the black level of the display.
Quoting an 'average' number for BT1886 really means nothing.
You should pot the display gamma vs. a power law 2.2/2.4 gamma, using a 'Differential Gamma' graph as per the above link.
Then you will see what is really happening.
