Real-Time 4K/2K/HD/SD Digital Intermediate and Stereo 3D...
Mistika really is an all-round DI and finishing system, with all the tools you would expect for such functionality. But, as is often the case, there are some applications provided by Mistika that really are Killer Apps.
In the present market environment this is Stereoscopic 3D, where Mistika provides a range of tools that really do stand head and shoulders above the competition.
Stereoscopic 3D
In general terms, the real-time nature of Mistika enables true interactive stereo 3D operation, from dealing with camera capture and image alignment issues, through to creative processes used to make the final stereo image more appealing.
For example, the re-alignment and size matching of left and right eyes is as simple as a couple of pen taps, with Mistika then playing the corrected image in real-time, with no processing. On top of this the scene's convergence can also be redefined, including with dynamic convergence control, and the result played with no rendering.
The big benefit here is the ease with which Mistika can perform the match process - with the real technical aspects being fully automated.
This goes further with, colour balance between eyes being just as easy to match, using a very unique 'checkerboard' display overlapping both eyes.
What's so unique about a checkerboard display overlapping both eyes, I hear you say?
Well, what's unique is the real-time 'warp' process Mistika uses to warp both eyes into a what appears to be a single 'mono' image. This warp process means that any colour imbalances are far, far easier to see than with a simple checkerboard display!
Neat
And as the warp is a dynamic process, active all the time while colour balance changes are made, the single 'warped' mono image actually becomes more accurate as the colour match becomes better... Now that really is neat!!!
And these real-time capabilities continue for all the various tools Mistika offers for Stereo 3D work - a set of tools that just can't be bettered.
The Real Killer App
But, the real Killer App is made possible by Mistika's use of Optical Flow technology within its image processing engine.
In basic terms, Optical Flow means a process where each and every pixel in an image (or a subset there of) is tracked in real-time and this track information used to generate new pixels, enabling different effects to be applied to an image - with smooth slow-motion being an obvious use (and one Mistika is very good at - in real-time!).
Mistika's Killer Application of Optical Flow technology is to enable camera inter ocular (or camera inter axial) to be adjusted in post, in user definable 'Z-space' zones.
So, for example, a scene that has good middle space depth, but with objects that exceed positive and/or negative parallax thresholds in near and far Z-space can have those extreme objects repositioned back into acceptable Z-space.
I hope that both makes sense, and you find it very impressive? You should, as it is!
While such camera interaxial (interocular) alteration is not real-time - the maths involved is just too complex - it is very, very fast.
