It is very important for any colour critical environment that the underlying display devices are accurately set-up, or no LUT will ever work correctly, so some form of measurement probe is required to set the correct initial brightness and colour temperature.

This is something that we have seen as a problem with many existing calibration systems, where the initial set-up accuracy generated jst isn't good enough. With the Hubble integration with the LUT Builder it is now possible to verify just how accurate (or not) a monitor really is before LUT Building starts.

MAKING SENSE OF COLOUR MANAGEMENT...

The Hubble probe is an ideal addition to any colour critical environment, and in its basic form, as it come out of the box, in combination with the Light Illusion LUT Builder, enables accurate brightness and colour temperature setting to be achieved via display device measurement and profiling.

Hubble is designed for measurement of any display technology found in DI environments, from monitor displays, including LCD, CRT and Plasma, to projection systems, both film and digital, and provides highly-accurate results to guarantee colour calibration.

Hubble Probe Interface
Hubble integration with the 3D LUT Builder provides the ability to use Hubble both to check and calibrate a display device very accurately by matching values from a given colour space - Rec709/P3-DCI-D55/P3-DCI-D65/XYZ, as well as profiling multiple displays and building LUTs to match the measured profiles.

Calibration Interface
The following diagrams show the major components of the Calibration (Hubble) Interface, with CIE diagram including target colour space, in the form of a circle, and the actual measurement value, in the form of a cross.

The large white patch to the right is the target calibration area for the Hubble to measure, which can be re-sized as required when undocked from the main software window.

The drop-down menu to the right, below the small colour patch, allows for the selection of the desired floating colour calibration patch - white; red; green; blue, with the addition of grey scale patches to check colour space tracking over the full brightness range. When selected the target colour value is displayed as a circle within the CIE diagram - within the selected colour space - allowing for the monitor calibration to be altered dynamically to match the actual measured value, as shown by the displayed cross, to the aim circle.

The slider to the right of the CIE diagram show the aim and actual measured brightness values, either in FtLs or Nits (cd/m2).

Network Conectivity
The Network Manager & Calibration Client allows the Calibration Client to be used on seperate PC, Mac, and Linux systems, connected to the system with the LUT Builder software active, allowing for the calibration of monitors not directly connected to the LUT Builder PC system.

Calibration Client
When connected and calibration measurement is initiated the calibration client window will show the same display profile patches as the main LUT Builder software - making remote monitor calibration easy.

Hubble Display Profiling and Auto LUT Building - (Beta Test) Option

Display Profiling and Auto LUT Building is work in development, and is not yet fully operational, but is being provided in Beta Test for Free Of Charge (FOC) to all early adopter customers ordering the Hubble Probe and Hubble Calibration Interface. As development progresses the option will continue to be provided FOC to early adopters. Once released Profiling and Auto LUT Building will become a cost option!

Display Characterisation
Display Characterisation provides for the profiling of multiple display devices, using the Hubble probe, and then uses the profiles to automatically build LUTs... As stated above, presently in Beta Test.

When selected, Display Calibration priovides the tools necessary to set the various Hubble probe options (Direct Display, or Projector measuring, Luminance Units, Integration Time, etc.), and to then initiate the profile measuring, which automatically displays a selection of Red, Green, Blue and White patches that the Hubble automatically measures and generates a display profile from.

Automated LUT Building
After profiling of a number of display systens has been completed the Convert Colour Space tools can be used to automatically build LUTs matching the various profiles... As stated above, presently in Beta Test.
