Art Adams - Canon EOS Gamma Curves - 1-Sept-26
Art, who is one of the biggest users of Light Illusion's various Gamma Curves, talking about a couple of recent Canon EOS 5D shot projects:
Lights, Camera, Kids: Shooting a Childish Spot for T-Mobile on the Canon 5D - http://provideocoalition.com
As usual I used Steve Shaw’s Light Illusion gamma curves for the 5D and 7D. I much prefer these curves to any of the looks I get out of the 5D’s built-in curves. Those work in a pinch, but Steve’s curves really make the camera look its best.

Anatomy of a Spot: T-Mobile - http://provideocoalition.com
I used one of Steve Shaw’s Light Illusion gamma curves, probably #1. (Light Illusion curve #1 is great for low contrast situations as it adds a bit more “crunch” to the look. Curve #2 is better for high contrast situations as it flattens things out a bit. I haven’t found a use for curve #3. You can get all three, plus a new flatter log curve, for a very reasonable price at the Light Illusion website.)

Blue Nile Shines Thanks to the Canon 5D and Apple Color - http://provideocoalition.com
I should point out that the reason I was able to push the footage around as much as I did has much to do with Steve Shaw’s excellent Canon 5D gamma curves.

Light Illusion launches SpaceMan ICC - 21-September-10
Light Illusion launches SpaceMan ICC - convert industry standard 3D LUTs into ICC profiles.

LUTs have become a standard part of any colour critical post-production workflow, especially where DI
(Digital Intermediate) grading is performed. The problem many operations face is that many creative
tools that are now used as part of an entire project’s workflow are not LUT capable, instead using
computer and print industry ICC profiles for colour management.
The development of Light Illusion’s SpaceMan ICC management software allows creative systems
based on ICC colour management to display images in an identical way to LUT based systems. Such
compatible colour management enables software systems, such as Adobe® Photoshop® and After
Effects®, as well as any other ICC compliant software packages, to be colour accurate when
performing work in parallel with mainstream post-production systems.
For more information see the SpaceMan ICC pages.
