Dimming a projector down with a LUT.. kosher?

I want to use a LUT to bring a 25ftL projector down to 15ftL. (Using a limit luma LUT.)

Will this work? Is there anything I'm missing or not considering? (i.e. its bad for the projector, or compressing luminance will reduce bit depth or something...)
Would rather not ND it down, as I'm concerned it might affect color. Or is that the better move?

A LUT can be used, and no, you will not be reducing the bit-depth.
The main issue it reducing brightness this way will nit also reduce the black level, in the way making the change optically will.

I'd probably use a ND and then calibrate with that in place.

Cheers,
