Display Types

Calibrating Displays of Different Types

The calibration tools provided by Light Illusion enable any display type to be accurately calibrated, including Professional Reference Displays, Flat Panel TVs, Projectors, Video Walls, Computer Monitors, via direct Manual Calibration and through the use of advanced 3D LUTs.

Colour Made Simple

Display Calibration

Light Illusion is the de-facto standard for colour management within the Film, Post-Production, and Broadcast industries, guaranteeing image accuracy and consistency at all levels, and uniquely supports Home Cinema at the same professional level, enabling home users to match professional colour accuracy.

Within the various industries that require accurate calibration there are often many different display types, and the calibration tools provided by Light Illusion enable them all to be accurately calibrated to a very high standard.

The advanced level of accuracy provided by Light Illusion's calibration software systems have made them the industry leading tools to guarantee colour calibration across all display types and technologies, from the professional Film and TV industry, through Home Cinema, to Corporate & Commercial A/V installations.

Professional Reference Monitors

Dolby Display Calibration

The Film and TV industry, which encompasses Broadcast and Post-Production, is where all of Light Illusion's colour management tools originate, as all those involved with Light Illusion have worked within the industry at professional levels, from engineering to creative colourists.

Within the professional industries reference monitors are the standard for colour critical work, and LightSpace CMS is the perfect calibration system, with accuracy proven to be superior to alternative systems. See comparison data...

With the industry expansion in to HDR and HLG, professional calibration has become yet more critical, and even more complicated. LightSpace CMS greatly simplifies the process, ensuring any target calibration standard can be achieved in the shortest possible timeframe, and with the best possible final accuracy.

Additionally, as LightSpace CMS doesn't rely on pre-set workflows for calibration work, unlike alternative calibration systems, the user is free to apply the provided tools within LightSpace in any chosen way, always guaranteeing the best possible display profile and calibration results.

Projection

Projector Calibration

Projectors are used in many different industries, from the professional Film and TV industry, through Home Cinema, to Corporate & Commercial A/V installations.

The calibration of projectors is not vastly different to normal displays, but the difficulty in attaining clean profile readings, due to the technology used in some projectors, can require the use of the advanced tools within LightSpace CMS, including Anisometric patch sequences, Drift Compensation, plus the LUT Manipulation tools which enable direct adjustment of the final calibration data within LightSpace PRO and XPT.

Mac & PC Displays

The colour management requirements for any Mac or PC display can be awkward to define, as the way ICC profiles work are makes then unsuited to isolated display calibration, as they rely on compliant software for their operation. This means display calibration is not the discrete entity it should be, but associated with only those programs that are ICC compatible.

There are various solution to this problem, from the use of HDMI based LUT boxes, such as eeColor, to SpaceMatch DCM which can take a LightSpace CMS calibration LUT and apply it directly to the graphics card as a VCGT 1D LUT, without the PC's operating system knowing anything about the applied colour management. PC Workstation Display Calibration

More usefully, SpaceMan ICC can take any 3D LUT and convert it into a an accurate ICC profile for use within ICC complaint programs, such as Adobe® Photoshop® and After Effects®, as well as any other ICC compliant software packages, including QuickTime and FCP. Read more...

Note: Graphic Card calibration can only ever by via a 1D LUT, so can only control Grey Scale, not Gamut (saturation).

Video Walls

Video Wall Calibration

As LightSpace CMS is not based on pre-set workflows for specific calibration types it can be used very effectively for Video Wall calibration, by quickly profiling each panel, often within seconds, using the profile data to set achievable calibration targets for all panels.

As Video Wall calibration has more to do with inter-panel matching, rather than direct colour standard accuracy, LightSpace CMS uniquely provides for user-defined colour space targets to be set, based on the measured profile data, enabling all panels to be matched to the best achievable target.

With LightSpace CMS there are no 'calibration workflows', as they greatly limit the potential accuracy of the final result. Uniquely, LightSpace CMS simply provides a collection of calibration tools that enable the best possible calibration of any display.

Flat Panel TVs

Flat Panel TV Calibration

Home Cinema is often based around large flat panel TVs that are potentially UHD/4K and possibly HDR capable. Calibration of such TVs often has more to do with the approaches used for professional displays, and uniquely LightSpace CMS makes no differentiation between different industries and applications, enabling Home Cinema users to match professional colour accuracy with ease, guaranteeing that the images seen on such Home Cinema setups match exactly the film production's intent.

Achieving precise colour accuracy is not about following pre-set calibration workflows, but about attaining the best display profile data, and from that defining the best possible final calibration. It is here that LightSpace CMS is unique, and offers unparalleled calibration capabilities.

Interest in HDR and HLG has made display calibration yet more critical, and yet more complicated. LightSpace CMS greatly simplifies the process, ensuring any target calibration standard can be achieved in the shortest possible timeframe, and with the best possible final accuracy.
