One of the biggest requirements for any DI operation is to ensure the images being viewed during the grading process are as accurate as possible to the final deliverable.
DOES YOUR DI MONITORING MATCH THE FINAL DELIVERABLE?
The problem is this is often not the case, and many DI operations struggle to fully understand the real requirements for color calibration...
Calibration Requirements
The basic requirement for any DI environment is to match the viewing system to the final deliverable viewing image - regardless as to the format that final deliverable will be viewed as - film, digital projection, or tv - or what workflow is being used - Log based, or Linear.

As can be seen from the above diagram the basis for calibration is to match the monitor and/or digital projector to the final deliverable image (film print in this example).
To do this 3D LUTs are used to alter the image from the DI system to match the final deliverable - easy!
For more information on LUT use see the Using LUTs pages, as well as the LightSpace CMS.
