Annapurna Studios www.annapurnastudios.in
Annapurna Studios is one of the oldest film studios in South India, providing cost effective solutions to meet international film production standards through its range of services.

When Annapurna decided to move into Digital Intermediate post-production they approached Light Illusion to help define and build a state-of-the-art facility, which is now fully operationsl.


BTV www.btvpost.com
BTV is a cutting edge post-production operation based in Brighton and Soho, UK, and provides 2D and 3D post-production.

BTV has requested calibration and calibration training on a number of occasions, with Sony grade-1 CRT, LG 3D monitor, and Barco digital projectors all being calibrated via Light Illusion's calibration service.


OTF www.offthefence.com
OTF (Off The Fence) recently launched a new post-production operation based in Bristol, UK, and via their facility designer, Dave Blackham of Esprit Film and Television, requested calibration and calibration training via Light Illusion's calibration service.

Two Panasonic Plasma monitors required calibration, and are one of the more difficult display to accurately calibrate. However, the results obtained by LightSpace CMS and Hubble probe were very good.


EgliFilm www.eglifilm.com
EgliFilm has been a premium post-production operation for over 40 years, and includes a full film processing lab.

EgliFilm requested calibration training as part of their purchase of LightSpace CMS and Hubble probe, and took place over a three day period, resulting in EgliFilm gaining a wide level of education and practical experience.


Reliance Mediaworks www.reliancemediaworks.com
The film restoration division of Reliance Mediaworks, Digital Media Imaging, contracted Light Illusion to perform facility-wide display calibration and training. Reliance Mediaworks also purchased LightSpace CMS system and Hubble probe to perform the required calibration.

The calibration and training was done over a four day period, with a number of display problems isolated and corrected, or monitors replaced, as required.


Platige Image www.platige.com
Platige Image were having calibration problems within their DI operation, and requested Light Illusion's help to run a full check on the operation.

This was done over a three day period, with a number of problems isolated and corrected, and calibration for Rec709 and DCI XYZ set-up and verified throughout the operation.


SGO www.sgo.es
SGO has requested Steve's assistance to help promote, formulate and support its Mistika DI system in the digital film and post-production markets. This includes product and sales support, market feedback for product development and marketing support.


Richard Lloyd
UK and world renowned film post supervisor and producer Richard Lloyd came to Steve Shaw for assistance with the teaser for upcoming Stereoscopic 3D film 'Creeping Zero'. Steve helped Richard get to grips with the unique requirements of Stereoscopic workflows, from capture all the way through post-production.

Redray Films came to Light Illusion for assistance in post-producing their 16mm feature film 'Five Day Shelter', which required both post supervision and the creative on-line work to be performed by Steve Shaw.

Genoa, Italy based E-Motion offers a comprehensive shooting and post production package for digital film, specialising in the Red One and Stereoscopic 3D, and is a close partner with Light Illusion for its numerous 3D Stereo projects.

Indy UK Films Freight The Movie
Indy UK Films came to Light Illusion for assistance in post-producing their Red shot feature film 'Freight', which required both post supervision and the creative on-line work to be performed by Steve Shaw.

Digital Magic www.digitalmagic.in
Digital Magic is a creative boutique DI operation in Chennai, India, and has used Light Illusion to assist in setting up its colour calibration for DI grading, including suggesting monitoring and building calibration LUTs.


Gemini-Film Lab
Gemini is one of South India's oldest film labs, servicing the southern India film business from its lab in Chennai, and has been running a small vfx facility for some time that has expanded to become a DI operation.

Gemini contracted Steve (under the guise of Light Illusion) to help build its new DI operation from the ground-up, with initial discussion early 2007.


Axis Films www.axisfilms.co.uk
Axis Film (now part of the On Sight group) were one of the first UK companies to become involved in 3D Stereoscopic work, and with Steve Shaw developed a lot of the early workflows that have since become common in Stereo projects.


Hidef Resource www.hidefresource.com
Hidef Resource contracted Steve to help build a new DI facility for Post-Mecca, Manila, a brand new, ground-up operation, much as Steve previously help build for FutureWorks, Mumbai, India.

This is an on-going project, with the facility opening its doors late 2008, although Mecca already have work lined-up for the new facility, so time from concept to being operational will be very short!


EyeQube www.eyeqube.com
EyeQube are part of Eros International, and are a VFX and Animation facility in Mumbai, India, run by Charles Darby, one of the industry's top matte painters and animators.

For their VFX work on Drona (see Film Projects), EyeQube used Steve to provide tools for workflow management and image calibration to match into the final DI process, being performed at Light Illusion client FutureWorks.


Ghali Electronics
Ghali Electronics, run by Fouad Houri, are Syria's primary media service agency, providing support for all aspects of the industry within Syria, especially Damascus.

Fouad approached Steve to provide support for their growing film business within Damascus; specifically with their dealings with the Government's 'National Film Organisation', as the organisation were keen to develop their Film capabilities into the DI world. This is an on-going contract, and I can heartily recommend Damascus as a city worth visiting!


Notch www.notch.ca
Notch are Toronto's leading colour house, providing grading work via two DSX telecines and da Vinci 2K systems, specialising in high-end and dailies grading for both short-form and long-form projects.

Understanding that the market for colour work is changing, Notch approached Steve to provide a consultancy review service of their operation, aimed at looking at future potential workflows and equipment needs.


Adlabs Films www.adlabsfilms.com
Adlabs Film is one of India's largest film operations, with tv and film production and post-production, film lab processing, distribution and theater operations.

Adlabs contracted Steve to help evolve its operations within the growing Digital film market, initially commissioning 3 separate reports on the market and industries involved in Digital Film. These reports were finished early 2007, with Adlabs continuing to use Steve to help build their Digital Film future.


FutureWorks
FutureWorks is a new DI operation in Bollywood, India, started by sound facility Gaurav Digital, who hired Steve to act as technology consultant to aid in equipment decision making and set-up of the operation.

The new facility boasts a stat-of-the-art setup, including Spirit 2, Pablo DI system, fully calibrated digital projection grading environment, VFX operation, ArriLaser film recorder, and film restoration systems.


Avion Post Production www.avionet.cz
Avion Post Production is one of the leading digital post production studios in Prague, the Czech Republic, and provides complete post production/DI services, including offline, visual effects, 3D animation, cartoon animation, digital colouring and film recording, as well as sound post production for film, TV, advertising and music industries. They also have a great relaxing club-restaurant!!!

Their requirement was for calibration of their iQ based DI system, using Steve's ViewLUT Builder to better calibrate the iQ output. This was performed over a number of days, during which high-end DI training was also provided by Steve.


Sunset Digital www.sunsetdigital.net
Sunset Digital, LA, purchased a Quantel iQ Pablo 4K DI system as part of their DI workflow, and as part of its installation and set-up Steve was called on to provide technical and operational support. This was important as Sunset had an immediate job to complete - performing the deliverables work on The New World.


Condor Cape www.condorcape.com
Condor Cape, SA, turned to Steve when they needed to get a fully operational DI suite up and running in a very short time frame. Their DI suite comprises a Spirit, Quantel iQ, JVC HD2K projector and associated digital vfx systems. Steve was asked to help build the workflow methodology and calibrate the systems for optimum performance, from scanning through to all deliverables.


Shooters Post & Transfer www.shootersinc.com
When Shooters Post & Transfer, Philadelphia, needed to get a HD DI workflow up and working for 'Shadowboxer', a 35mm film that had not planned to go the DI route, Bob Pyle, Director of Engineering, turned to Steve to help define the required workflow, including Spirit scanning, HDcam SR recording, calibration via Kodak KDM, editorial and vfx via Flame, and grading via da Vinci 2K.

Uniquely, all the consulting performed by Light Illusion was performed remotely, with no visits ever being made to Philadelphia. The results for Shadowboxer speak for this remote consulting approach!


The BBC www.bbc.com
The BBC's Natural History Unit Producer Mark Linfield approached Steve to assist with their new Natural World series, following on from the very successful Blue Planet. This new series was to be shot in HD, and Steve was asked to help in understanding the possibilities of the various HD formats, as well as develop some specific CVP gamma curves for the Sony f900 and f950 HDcam cameras. The project is Shot throughout the world in very demanding conditions.

Cintel brought in Steve to assist with market understanding for future product development, especially in the face of the growing Digital Intermediate market. From market discussions Cintel developed their dataMill real-time film scanner, with SD, HD and data capability for 10bit Log image clone transfers. This is the first multi-revenue film scanner without colourist requirement or external grading control system needs.


MotionFX & Motion Control Cameras www.motioncontrol.co.uk
MotionFX and sister companies provide digital post production for commercials and film projects that make use of the companies Motion Control rigs and studio workspace. They employ a range of systems including iQ and Cyborg for DI and 2D work as well as a selection of graphics and 3D systems. More importantly they have the Thomson Viper FilmStream Digital Cinematography camera (RGB 4:4:4, log output capable), and linked with their motion control rigs and iQ provide on-set DI capabilities.

AHC are a small boutique post-production operation who have seen the advantages of adopting a Digital Intermediate workflow and applying it to their traditional commercials and long-form TV business. Based around two Quantel eQ HD systems AHC are at the forefront of the global take-up of DI methodology for traditional post-production, as distinct to 'digital film'. Alto Films www.altofilms.com
Alto Film are a production company embarking on a slate of feature films who intend to make the most of what today's advanced digital imaging technology can offer. Steve has provided Production and Post-Production supervision to ensure mistakes are not made and time and money wasted as well as ensuring the best possible final result is obtained.


LipSync www.lipsync.co.uk
LipSync is an emerging player in London's Soho DI market having recently installed two ArriLaser film recorders, two NorthLight film scanners and a digital projection DI room based around Quantel's iQ.

Steve has assisted in operational training, working with Stuart Fyvie, LipSync's new Digital Intermediate operator and colourist.


FotoKem www.fotokem.com
FotoKem is a premier film lab and film transfer operation working out of LA. Steve has been involved with FotoKem for many years while they evaluated various technology possibilities for a new DI operation. This culminated in the installation of a full Quantel iQ DI system, for which support is ongoing.

Support has included operational work in the form of editorial and colourist work on FotoKem's first major DI project - Disney/Louis Schwartberg's America's Heart & Soul.


Moving Picture Company [MPC] www.moving-picture.com
MPC is one of Soho's premier post-production facilities, with capabilities from video to digital film, from 2D to 3D, having, at the time of writing, just completed vfx work on Harry Potter 1 & 2. Their decision to move into digital intermediate operations was based partly on discussions with Steve and the he was subsequently hired to set-up and run the initial operation, especially during the critical early days and their first major project, LD-50.


Company 3 [CO3] www.company3.com
CO3 are one of LA's top telecine operations, having performed work on numerous top-flight commercials, promos, etc. When they started to look at the DI environment Steve was able to provide support during the start-up of the technical side of the operation, including film transfer calibrations, monitor calibration as well as operational assistance. A lot of additional support was provided remotely through an agreement to supply 24/7 technical phone and e-mail assistance.


Quantel www.quantel.com
Quantel has requested Steve's assistance on a number of past occasions to help promote, formulate and support its efforts in the digital film and post-production markets. This has included training, product support (what some may call product evangelising), market feedback for product development and marketing support. Steve was a regular source of feedback for their R&D team.


Cinecittą Studios www.cinecittastudios.it
As Europe’s largest film studio, and having recently moved into private ownership, the studio’s digital facility requested assistance with development of its digital film capability. This has included assessing and specifying products, building facility infrastructure, providing technical engineering and creative operational support.

Through involvement with Cinecittą support has also been provided to companies involved in various aspects of E-Cinema including satellite transmission company Elsacom and digital equipment manufacturer Panasonic amongst others.

As a manufacturer of film transfer devices ITK requested assistance on a number of occasions to help define future development plans for products and company. This included which products to develop further and possible alternative business models for the company based on market intelligence feedback. ITK is now part of Cintel.


Cablefree Solutions www.cablefree.co.uk
An upcoming manufacturer of Optical Wireless Communication systems for line-of-sight links between buildings/networks who’s systems are capable of Gb/s data/voice transmission up to 4K through the air. The company requested assistance to develop the commercial side of the company, building a sales and distribution chain with limited financial support while looking to acquire additional investment to enable expansion of the company to meet market demand.
